STEPHENS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL RECOGNIZED BY STATE
OFFICIALS FOR CONTRIBUTION TO LOCAL PROJECT

The Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA)
honored Stephens Memorial Hospital on October 25, 2006 at the West
Central Texas Council of Governments meeting in Abilene for having
secured a $50,000.00 grant from the Capital Improvement Loan Fund
and $9,280.00 grant from the Small Hospital Improvement Program
for a Telemetry System and computers for the new Emergency Room/CAT
Scan Room project.
ORCA honored Stephens Memorial Hospital as one
of 47 grant recipients from the South Plains area recognized at the
event. The recipients received more than $5 million in grants
awarded by ORCA between September 1, 2005 and August 31, 2006. The
funds supported a variety of local undertakings, including local
infrastructure development, (planning, capacity building, water,
wastewater) projects, disaster relief, healthcare accessibility
enhancements, medical facility improvements and healthcare
professional recruitment endeavors, to name a few.
“We commend the efforts of every recipient for
their dedication to supporting their rural Texas community,” said
ORCA Executive Director, Charles (Charlie) S. Stone. “ORCA was
created to assist rural Texans with building their own communities,
and I applaud everyone who applied for funding to address the needs
of their community.”
ORCA’s door is always open for comments and
suggestions regarding the agency, and any rural issues of concern.
