Nursing Services

Acute Care:  Stephens Memorial Hospital provides inpatient hospitalization for infants on through senior adult.  We provide a full range of services including: Respiratory therapy, advanced imaging, general laboratory, social service and physical therapy services.  The acute care unit is a 33-bed unit that has 5 telemetry beds available to monitor the cardiac patient.  Our nurses are trained to provide care to our patients and families as they deal with multiple disease processes.

Emergency Services:  Our Emergency Department is a Texas Department of Health Level IV trauma Facility.  Our Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week with in house independent fulltime physicians.  Our physicians and nursing staff have completed advanced training in the management of the trauma victim.  We serve the infant through the senior adult patient.  Additionally, in conjunction with our Stephens County Emergency Medical Service and air medical helicopters, we are able to provide advanced medical transport when required.

Ambulatory Care Services:  Open; Monday through Friday we provide an array of outpatient services.  Additionally, we provide monthly-specialized clinics with the following specialties:

• Cardiology

• Neurology

• Podiatry

• Ophthalmology

• Pulmonology

• Oncology

• ENT

• Pain Management

Department of Surgery:  Stephens Memorial Hospital has a 24 hour/7 day a week surgery team ready for scheduled and emergency cases.  Additionally, we provide Endoscopy services.  Currently we have two general surgeons on staff:  Dr. Elmo Prater and Chief of Staff, Dr. Dwight Nichols.
