Pharmacy Department

Philosophy of the Pharmacy:
            Stephens Memorial Hospital Pharmacy exists for the sole purpose of providing all patients with the correct medication at the precise time.  In achieving this goal, each employee must utilize all resources available to them whether in the supervised purchasing of the medication or in the professional evaluation of the physician's order.  Every function and activity of the department is carried out with the basic purpose of excellence in drug therapy and patient care.

            The department is charged with the responsibility of providing assistance to all other departments of the hospital in matters concerning medications.  This includes the development of proper drug storage areas within the hospital and the development of a functional and accurate method of medication administration.  The department is responsible for establishing policies and procedures on the use, storage, disposition, distribution, and record keeping of these medications as required by the accrediting bodies of the hospital.

            The pharmacy provides services within the hospital to patients and staff members and it stands as a source of information to the community as a whole.  Information regarding medication is provided to those who seek it whether they are physicians, nurses, patients, or members of the community.

            The pharmacy is staffed by two full time technicians and one part time employee.  Each full time employee is certified with the State of Texas as a technician and are current in continuing education hours.  There is a consulting pharmacist in house twice weekly.
